A Sweet Story
Here’s a story that I believe to be worth sharing with the world. It really helps define the sincerity of my husband, and it also further supports why he is just so darn cute.
Last month I left town for a few days to go visit my brother and his family in Missouri. Jason was left alone to fend for himself, meaning: all meals, laundry, shopping, cleaning the house for our cell group, among other things. He is more than capable of doing all of these, and it doesn’t surprise me when he wants to go above and beyond the call of duty to take care of things that I would normally do if I were home. Trust me, this does not end up in disaster. With that said, I need to explain some key points before I go any further.
Every Fall and Spring there is a large consignment sale in Dallas. The sale is Divine Consign and is a huge deal for mothers in the area, because it’s all second hand children’s items. The Divine Consign sale has everything: children’s clothing, toys, bedding, furniture, you name it. Its’ owners are two women who we happen to go to church with. So, out of the kindness of their hearts they donated all of the clothes that did not sell in this Fall’s sale to Project Mercy (a ministry through Farmers Branch Church for hurricane Katrina victims), and all clothes would be free to any hurricane families in need.
Okay, let me explain what happened. The church opened their doors to invite all of the hurricane families to get their free clothing, to their disappointment only two families showed up. The women who organized this started calling everyone they knew, and clothing would be sold at around $0.25. We got the call, however I was out of town. Jason could not allow me to miss out on this opportunity. So, with a bag of quarters in hand, Jason headed to the church to face the madness of women ransacking through all of the clothing. He had a blast! Since we don’t know what we are having yet, he got half boy clothes and half girl clothes. Plus being the man of great persuasion that he is, Jason was able to involve some other mothers to help him with sizes etc. Jason walked away with close to 80 baby outfits that day and he paid a total of $14! I’m not talking about some clothes that some baby threw up on either. It’s Ralph Lauren, Baby Dior, Gap, and it’s all so adorable. I know some of you are doing the math and 80 outfits do not add up to $14. Jason ran out of quarters, and since he purchased so many clothes they did not make him pay the difference. I could hardly believe it when I came home Monday night and there were piles of clothes sitting on my guest room bed. Jason beamed with pride over his great accomplishment. What husband would brave aggressive mothers to find a bargain that his wife was going to miss out on? Isn’t he sweet?
